OVERVIEW
The ask was to design a label for a new BBQ seasoning. However, it was quickly realized a full identity was needed, from a name for both the company and seasoning, to a logo, label, and everything in between. Needless to say, I was stoked to get started!
BACKGROUND
Grand Oaks BBQ is focused on providing high quality BBQ seasoning to the local community. The seasoning is competition quality but created for the weekend warrior, the backyard griller.
Toby, the founder of Grand Oaks, prides himself on being a local community member and wants to support his neighbors. That is exactly what I wanted to do for Toby, support him, his new business venture, and provide the best identity and product design for his seasoning.
PROCESS
Wanting to have that community feel, the name Grand Oaks was chosen as it represents the area we live.
The oak tree is native and a strong symbol throughout Southeast Texas. The tree in the logomark is a silhouette of the oldest oak in Texas, around 1000 years old. It represents strength, history, gathering, and has a boldness like the seasoning.
The roots symbolize being grounded in Texas and the bases of what this company stands for.
There are 28 stars circling the tree as Texas was the 28th state of the USA. While in the badge, there are 6 stars for the 6 flags that have flown over Texas.
OUTCOME
Grand Oaks BBQ Lone Star Dust has made its way into stores and homes across the world to this point. It was quickly accepted into local specialty shops and has been a fast seller. The seasoning has been used as far as Germany and become a favorite of many and will soon have other other seasonings under the name of Grand Oaks in the lineup.
